BATHWATER BABY

today
gladly would i have thrown
out the baby and saved
bathwater
savored, sipping grey bubbly through a straw
or dipping an exquisite satin shoe, gulping with
graceful abandon
hair sailing back in a
blaze of perfume
tilted my head to drink
my lipstick perfection
(marilyn ain't got no shine on me)

would have worn
a clean white silk gown
without a single formula stain
would have brushed my teeth in recent memory
could recall the last time i'd
slept for longer than an hour
could imagine
having sex again
although that is perhaps going a bit far

could imagine

imagining
having sex again
at some point
(maybe)

would redeem glamour in all its
plumescent glory

but then
i would cry out for you
adorable parasite.
